- Participate in healthcare projects, such as assisting in clinics or promoting public health awareness, making a positive difference in the well-being of local communities.
- Engage in projects focused on sustainable farming practices, promoting food security and environmental conservation, while learning about traditional agricultural methods.
- Discover Ghana’s rich history by visiting historical sites like Cape Coast Castle and learning about the country’s role in the transatlantic slave trade.
Here's a list of all the projects you can do
All our project are based in and around Accra the capital of Ghana. Stretched along the Atlantic Ocean, Ghana's most populous city boasts glittering beaches, monumental buildings, museums, libraries, galleries, traditional markets and lively nightlife. Accra's architecture reflects its colonial history, with 17th century castles standing alongside modern skyscrapers. A veritable melting pot of cultures, the city's central financial and shopping districts contrast sharply with the less affluent residential areas surrounding the urban core.
Medical Volunteering in Ghana
This is your chance to gain valuable first-hand experience of the healthcare system in Ghana. You will get a real insight into the difficulties faced and meet some of the amazing people trying to help make a difference to the lives of the local community. During your time on the placement, you will get to shadow and assist the professional medical staff where you will get an unparalleled experience. You will be involved in the day-to-day activities of the hospital, observing the doctors and nurses where you can help out in simple but practical ways, vastly increasing your own knowledge and understanding of medical practice. You will have the opportunity to be placed in many different departments so that you can gain a broad overview of the hospital. Your time in the clinics can be spent in a variety of ways including on maternity wards, operating theatres and recovery wards. You will get to see first-hand how cultural factors, scarce resources and a lack of education / health awareness cause an alarmingly high number of preventable cases admitted each day.
Volunteering in an Orphanage in Ghana
Volunteers support the children in their daily needs at the orphanage, helping them in their studies and guiding them. Volunteers will act as staff support to help with daily tasks that the local staff is overwhelmed to complete. The volunteers will also inspire the children by creating exciting activities for the children to do in their spare time, keeping them motivated and helping to create a safe and nurturing environment for the children to flourish. The workers and the volunteers are working together in a team, so it is necessary to be a team player and open minded to the Ghanaian culture. Being friendly, creative, spontaneous and for sure interested in the Ghanaian culture is essential for volunteering in the orphanage. Every day is different with new and exciting tasks and challenges. The children are looking forward to playing games and spend time with you!
Sports Development & Coaching
Schools in Ghana not only need your help to cope with the growing size of classes, lack of a 'substitute' teacher process but also to bring a fresh approach to lessons which are traditionally very dictation focused. Physical Education is not common in the majority of schools; they often have school football teams for example but nothing to include the whole class/school. We aim to improve on the standard of physical education for the youth to maintain physical fitness, improve concentration during school hours as well as skill and motor skill development to name just a few.
School Support & Teaching Volunteer
Volunteers help in a range of subjects, including Mathematics, Science, Geography, Social Science, History, Business Education, Art and Music, as well as English. The teaching takes place in Nursery, Primary and Secondary schools where volunteers initially either shadow or teach under the supervision of a local teacher. Once acquainted with the school and the curriculum, volunteers in Ghana get the chance of teaching independently. It is important that volunteers are flexible as there are a number of other tasks they can help with. These might include helping children with their homework, arranging games and activities, cleaning the classroom and assisting teachers with administrative duties.
It is not compulsory to have prior teaching experience or to have completed formal teacher training to volunteer in Ghana for this program. Volunteers level of involvement within the classroom can be tailored to suit their skills and interests. A willingness to share and an ability to be proactive is important and will make volunteers a valuable addition to any classroom.
NGO Management, Media and Administration Support
We often struggle to run our programs and to raise funds from international donors. Many staff members are volunteers themselves and receive no or a very small salary. We urgently need support from our volunteers to work in funds-raising, proposal writing, organizational development, administration, reports, and case studies. It is also a great opportunity to meet people from around the world who constantly visit us, and exchange experiences.
Your experience volunteering with us will not only allow you to positively impact the world, but you will also have the opportunity to become fully immersed in Ghanaian culture.
Mobile Nurse Volunteer
Give underprivileged Ghanaian healthy lives, brighter futures, and better care that they deserve. You will actively participate in house-to-house screening to check and create awareness of high blood pressure & malaria in selected Ghanaian communities.
Ghana Teaching Art and Design
During your program you will get to help run Art Clubs in local schools, using any number of different mediums. Your efforts will be helping local children use their own creative abilities to express themselves and produce their own works of art that they can be proud of.
The aims and objectives of this project are:
- Deepen the artistic and creative expression of local children and yourself
- Broaden cultural interactions through learning and idea exchange
- Gain invaluable and practical experience in teaching
- Expand your knowledge of Ghanaian customs, history, art and culture
Building Project in Accra, Ghana
Assist locals with much needed construction, repairs and renovations. Get your hands dirty and engage with the community! Our projects are dictated by community need. As a result, you may be renovating a school, building a home, or constructing a community center. No matter which phase of a project you join, be assured that your contribution will be lasting and greatly appreciated. No experience is necessary, as you will be working alongside locals with lots of experience using local materials.
By joining a building project, you will bring the human-power that is needed to fuel the construction. Projects are selected by community need, which creates a variety of different projects. Education and sanitation are usually at the top of the list, but volunteers also work on recreational projects, such as sports field-leveling and community centers. These often provide a great focal point for the community.
