Health Care Volunteer Program in Ghana
Overview
Join our Health Care Volunteer Program and work alongside doctors, nurses, and health professionals in hospitals and clinics across Ghana. This program is a great opportunity for medical students, pre-med students, nursing students, or professionals looking to contribute to under-resourced health facilities while gaining hands-on experience.
From assisting
with patient care to observing medical procedures, you’ll get a real-world view
of health care delivery in a developing country. Your support helps hospitals
meet the growing demand for care and enhances services for the community.

Volunteer Role
Your specific
tasks will depend on your background, training level, and the needs of the
facility. You may:
- Assist in hospital departments
(outpatient, maternity, pediatric, lab, etc.)
- Help with taking vitals and
preparing equipment
- Support maternal and child health
education
- Observe clinical consultations or
minor procedures
- Participate in community health outreach and awareness campaigns
Medical
students and professionals may have more hands-on responsibilities. Non-medical
volunteers can assist with administrative support and patient engagement.
Typical Day
- 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM: Breakfast
- 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM: Work in the assigned
hospital/clinic
- 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM: Lunch
- 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM: Continue volunteering or help
with community outreach
- 3:00 PM onward: Free time, explore, or rest
Start Dates & Arrival
Start every
Monday of the year.
Fly into Kotoka International Airport (ACC), Accra — where you’ll be
welcomed and transferred to your placement.
A full orientation will be given on arrival, including cultural
introduction, safety tips, and a local tour.
Who Can Join?
This program is
open to:
Medical & pre-med students
Nursing students
Public health students
Qualified professionals
Non-medical volunteers with a strong interest in health
care
Must be 18
years or older. A background in healthcare is preferred but not mandatory
for general assistance roles.
Free Time Activities
Ghana is full
of exciting sights and experiences!
Visit Kakum National Park’s canopy walk, explore Cape Coast Castle, hike to Wli
Waterfalls, or take weekend beach trips. Learn traditional drumming, taste
delicious Ghanaian cuisine, and immerse yourself in local life with other
volunteers.
Program Fees
USD 400 per volunteer per week (covers accommodation, meals, airport pickup, orientation, and on-ground support).
Fees are collected to help sustain Adjah Cancer Support Ghana’s volunteer programs and broader community initiatives, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Accommodation
& Meals
Volunteers will stay in a comfortable and secure volunteer house in Ho. The facility includes shared rooms with western toilets, running water, electricity. You will receive two local home-cooked meals daily—breakfast and dinner.
