Teaching Volunteer Program in Ghana

Overview

Join our Teaching Volunteer Program in Ghana and help bridge the educational gap in under-resourced schools and community learning centers. As a teaching volunteer, you'll assist local teachers, support children’s learning, and bring creative energy into the classroom.

This program is ideal for aspiring teachers, education students, or anyone passionate about helping children succeed academically. Your role contributes directly to improving literacy, numeracy, and self-confidence among students from low-income communities.

Volunteer Role

Depending on your interests and experience, you may:

  • Assist teachers with lesson planning and classroom management
  • Teach English, Math, Science, or creative arts
  • Organize games, reading circles, or group discussions
  • Tutor struggling students one-on-one
  • Help with extracurricular clubs like drama, sports, or debate

You’ll be placed in a basic school (primary or junior high), and your efforts help reduce the burden on local educators while making learning more enjoyable for students.

 

Typical Day

  • 7:30 AM – 8:30 AM: Breakfast and get ready
  • 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Volunteer teaching (supporting lessons, tutoring, creative activities)
  • 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM: Lunch
  • 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM: Continue assisting or prepare lessons
  • 3:00 PM onward: Free time or community involvement

 

Start Dates & Arrival

Start any Monday of the year. Volunteers should arrive at Kotoka International Airport (ACC), Accra. Airport pick-up and full orientation (culture, safety, local tour) provided before you begin your placement.

 

Who Can Join?

This program is open to volunteers aged 18+ with a desire to teach and uplift others. Prior teaching experience is helpful but not required—you’ll receive guidance and support throughout.

 

Free Time Activities

Ghana offers exciting travel opportunities—from visiting waterfalls and national parks to exploring markets and historic slave castles. Learn African drumming, try delicious local dishes, or join a cultural dance night. Volunteers often form strong bonds and explore together on weekends.

 

Program Fees

Your fees support your experience and our partner schools:

  • 2 weeks: USD 685
  • 4 weeks: USD 1,370
  • 6 weeks: USD 2,055
  • 8 weeks: USD 2,740
  • 12 weeks: USD 4,110
  • 24 weeks: USD 8,220

Includes airport pickup, orientation, shared accommodation, two meals/day, and local support team.

Accommodation & Meals

 

Volunteers will stay in a comfortable and secure volunteer house in Accra. The facility includes shared rooms with western toilets, running water, electricity. You will receive two local home-cooked meals daily—breakfast and dinner.

 

What’s Not Included:
